Diabetes alone is already dangerous in itself, what more of the complications that may arise from it? When living as a diabetic, a person must be conscious of their sugar levels. Living with diabetes diet faithfully, drinking enough liquids, and getting adequate sleep are key factors that can aid a diabetic cope with the disease.
Measuring carbohydrate count during meal times is very important if one is living with a diabetes diet. Sugar is the by-product of carbohydrates after two hours, and it is essentially the fuel of the body. Consult with a nutritionist or physician regarding the exact range of carbohydrates that one can consume.
When living with a diabetes diet, it is advisable to stay away from saturated fats. Limit also the consumption of red meats to three times a week, once a day because sugar affects the circulatory system. Avoid prepared foods that have more than three grams of total fats per serving. Turn to low-fat or non-fat dairy products for one’s calcium requirements.
Alcohol must be avoided at all times. A glass or two of wine is acceptable during dinner but better avoid the ones with have large quantities of sugar mixers. Living with diabetes diet means responsible drinking, instead of normal beer, one should drink light beer instead.
Living with diabetes diet requires discipline in consuming smaller quantities of carbohydrates on a daily basis. One should not skip meals, because the body may experience a drastic drop in glucose levels.
Living with a diabetes diet means dependence on consumption of snacks. A snack must have 15 grams of carbohydrates. The key to managing sugar levels is balance meal planning.
Living with diabetes diet is not enough for a diabetic to combat the disease. They should also exercise daily and learn how to monitor blood sugar levels to prevent hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Adequate sleep is very important.
Diabetics must adhere to this change in lifestyle to have a better quality of life.
