One of the best summer pastime activities when you have access to the ocean, river, pond or a lake is snorkeling. It is an excellent past time especially if you are in a vacation. It is an alternative to scuba diving considering it does not require expensive gear and there is no need to invest a lot of time undergoing training. There are only a few snorkeling equipments that are required as compared to scuba diving. The different snorkeling gears you will need are mask, flotation device, swim fins, and of course a snorkel. Having proper snorkeling gear and knowing what they are for is the key to enjoying this vacation sport.

The snorkel is the first essential snorkeling gear. There is no point in engaging in snorkeling without the snorkel itself. If you do not own one yet, it is highly advisable to buy one for yourself. Successful snorkeling experience may be a factor of the type of snorkel you will utilize. The basic snorkel is a tube that is used as a passage way for air to be inhaled and exhaled.
This is good for one-time users but if you opt to enjoy the best snorkeling experience then get a “dry snorkel.”

The mask is the next essential snorkeling gear that you should have in your arsenal. Your eyes cannot focus underwater so this item should be used to make you view things more clearly. When it comes to diving and snorkeling, there are wide arrays of selections. It is wise to buy a mask with good glass and strap quality if you have plans of snorkeling and scuba diving at the same time. However, if funds are limited, renting one from the tour company is a viable alternative.

Fins are the third essential snorkeling gear. Snorkeling activities won’t be impossible if you lack swim fins. This snorkeling gear will help you move faster and with less effort because the large surface of the fins will help you propel through the water.

The last basic snorkeling gear you’ll need is a flotation device or life jacket. Aside from the fact that it is a “life” saving device, it also helps you work less hard when swimming and enjoying the underwater scenery. However, having it wrapped around your body will prevent you from diving deeper if you wish to get a better look at something.
