Laser hair removal is consider as one of the permanent ways of removing unwanted hair. If you have been using other temporary methods such as waxing or shaving, it may be good to switch to laser hair removal if you wish to have permanent results. Laser hair removal is not applicable to all types of hair and skin. People with light skin and coarse dark hair often have the best results with this method. This procedure generally targets pigmented tissue, so it doesn’t work well on blond, grey, white and red hair.

The most common areas where laser hair removal frequently used are the legs, arms, chest, back, around the lips, bikini line and armpits. This method requires more time and it is costly especially when applied on larger areas of the body. It usually takes 6 to 8 sessions to fully remove the unwanted hair on an area. This method works by passing laser beams through the skin and into the hair roots. The heat from the beams destroys the follicles and stops hair growth. The skin is cooled down with a cooling device after or in between laser treatment. It takes around 15 minutes to 1 hour per session, depending on the area’s size.

Swelling and soreness of the treated area are the most common side effects of laser method. There is sometimes lightening or darkening of the skin. Though quite rare, scarring, blistering or changes in the skin’s texture may occur. These rare and extreme side effects usually happen due to wrong techniques, incorrect settings of the laser equipment and inexperience of the person who administered the treatment. Make sure that you check if the clinic or salon is approved by the Healthcare Commission.
