The condition, wherein blood glucose levels are higher than normal, yet it is not considered to be a condition of diabetes, is called Pre diabetes. It has affected more than 58 million people in the United States that the American Association of Clinical Endrocrinologists recommended options for treating pre diabetes to delay or prevent is transition to diabetes. They recommend that besides a pre diabetes diet, similar to that of type 2 diabetes diet, they should also exercise everyday.
Once a person is diagnosed with pre diabetes, that person should be ready to alternate his or her lifestyle. They should reduce calorie intake, increase fiber and limit carbohydrates. Pre diabetes diet maintenance is the key factor in the successful treatment of pre diabetes. Dietary changes play a lead role in preventing pre diabetes from progressing to other serious illnesses.
A pre diabetes diet stresses the importance of intake control of starches and sugars. One of the simplest ways to adhere to a pre-diabetes diet is called the plate method. The plate method is all about filling the biggest part of the plate with non-starchy vegetables. The other half of the plate should include a lot of vegetables, specifically the ones that are used in making a salad. A fourth of the plate should be whole grains while the remaining one-fourth should be lean meat protein. Accompanying this plateful of food is an 8 ounce glass of milk and a piece of fruit.
Meats and proteins that can be consumed in a pre diabetes diet are poultry, beef, pork, lamb, veal, fish, eggs, beans and lentils, soy-based meatless products and other meat products with less than 3 grams of fat per ounce.
Counting carbohydrates is another method of pre diabetes diet. This technique is all about counting carbohydrates that one consumes at the same time maintaining the required blood glucose levels. The target ranges between 45 to 60 grams per meal.
Keeping track of the Glycemic indes is another method of pre-diabetes diet. A reference food is utilized and it compares its ranking to other food. This can be complicated but it is applicable if one has a hard time maintaining glucose levels.
Better check with a physician if one thinks one has pre diabetes, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.
